7-Day Millet Diet Plan: Simple Rotation Chart
This is a simple 7-day millet diet plan that rotates the five Siridhanya (positive) millets across the week. It follows the rotation idea described in our authority guide, the Dr Khadar Vali millet diet, where each of the five millets is eaten in turn rather than the same grain every day. This is a food plan, not a medical programme.
The five millets you’ll rotate
Foxtail (Korralu/Navane), Browntop (Andu Korralu/Korale), Barnyard (Udalu/Oodalu), Kodo (Arikelu/Harka) and Little (Samalu/Saame). Use them unpolished. The easiest way to keep all five on hand is the Dr Khadar Vali diet kit or a combo pack.
The 7-day rotation
Each day, use that day’s millet in place of rice/wheat for one or two meals. Keep the other meal light (vegetables, dal, curd, fruit).
| Day | Millet | Breakfast | Lunch / Dinner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Foxtail | Millet upma or dosa | Foxtail millet rice with dal & vegetables |
| Day 2 | Browntop | Millet pongal | Browntop millet rice with sambar |
| Day 3 | Barnyard | Millet idli or porridge | Barnyard millet khichdi with vegetables |
| Day 4 | Kodo | Millet upma | Kodo millet lemon/curd rice with a vegetable |
| Day 5 | Little | Millet dosa | Little millet pulao with vegetables |
| Day 6 | Foxtail | Millet porridge with fruit | Foxtail millet bisi bele style with vegetables |
| Day 7 | Browntop | Millet pongal | Browntop millet rice with rasam & greens |
Swap dishes freely — the key idea is rotating the grain, not following exact recipes. For cooking methods and water ratios, see how to cook millets perfectly.
Prep tips
- Soak each millet 4–6 hours (or overnight) before cooking — it softens the grain and improves digestibility.
- Rinse well and cook with about 2 to 2.5 parts water to 1 part millet.
- Cook a fresh batch daily or refrigerate and use within a day.
- Start with one millet meal a day and build up gradually if millets are new to you.
Who should talk to a doctor first
A millet-based diet suits many people, but check with a qualified doctor or registered dietitian before starting if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, diabetic and on blood-sugar medication (your dose may need review as your diet changes), have kidney disease or are on a restricted-protein/mineral diet, or have a thyroid condition. Millets are a food and do not replace prescribed treatment.
