Why Choose Bull-Driven Cold Pressed Sesame Oil?

Most sesame oils on supermarket shelves are refined using chemical solvents and high heat — a process that strips the oil of its natural antioxidants, lignans (sesamin and sesamolin), and vitamin E. Orggu's sesame oil is extracted using a traditional bull-driven wooden ghani (chekku), where a bull slowly rotates a wooden pestle inside a stone mortar. The temperature never exceeds 40°C, which preserves every micronutrient that nature intended.

How Is Bull-Driven Sesame Oil Different from Machine-Pressed?

Machine-pressed (expeller) oils generate friction heat up to 120°C during extraction. While better than solvent-extracted oils, they still lose a significant portion of heat-sensitive nutrients. Bull-driven extraction keeps seeds below 40°C, resulting in oil that retains its full spectrum of sesamin, sesamol, and tocopherols. You'll notice the difference in the rich amber colour and the deep, nutty aroma that refined oils simply cannot match.

Nutritional Profile of Cold Pressed Sesame Oil

A tablespoon (15 ml) of cold pressed sesame oil provides approximately 120 calories, 14g of fat (primarily polyunsaturated and monounsaturated), 1.4mg of vitamin E (9% DV), and zero trans fats. Sesame oil is one of the richest plant sources of lignans — compounds studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains omega-6 fatty acids (linoleic acid) and omega-9 (oleic acid) in a balanced ratio.

How to Use Sesame Oil in Indian Cooking

Cold pressed sesame oil has a smoke point of approximately 210°C, making it suitable for tempering (tadka), shallow frying, and sautéing. In South Indian kitchens, it is the traditional oil for sambar, rasam tempering, and chutneys. It is also widely used in pickle-making (achar) due to its natural preservative properties. For salad dressings and marinades, use it unheated to enjoy the full flavour and nutritional benefits.

Storage Tips

Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Cold pressed sesame oil naturally lasts 6–8 months without any preservatives. For extended freshness, refrigeration is recommended after opening. Unlike refined oils, you may notice slight sediment at the bottom — this is a sign of unfiltered, nutrient-rich oil and is perfectly safe to consume.
